Saturday June 11th saw this years annual 'Vintage Tea Party with Dymock Island Discs' and again this year it was held in the church due to rainy weather. Around 40 people gathered to enjoy an old-fashioned tea of delicate sandwiches and home-made cakes and to hear our guest's choice of 8 records. This year the guest was our Rector,
Rev'd Tony Lomas, just before he leaves us to take up a new post in France.

Tony explained that when a child, his father was a vicar at St Johns Wood, London, so he went to a 'high' church where he was an Altar Boy and developed a taste for choral church music by singing in their choir. His choice of records was mainly classical but he had a couple of 'oddities' due to his time working in Africa selling and teaching about agricultural machinery before he was ordained as a priest. It was there that he developed his fluency in French which has now led him to his new post in France.

His first choice was the choral piece 'Locus Iste' by Bruckner which our choir sang for him gathered round his table (see picture).
Other choices included music by Grie and Lefebrure-Wely, but also music from Godspel,
and 'Inkanyezi Nezazi' and 'Imidiwan Ma Tenam' from Africa. Tony explained that the last piece went on for many minutes so we only had an excerpt, but similar pieces can go on for any hours!
